The book trade in the 21st century is about far more than bookselling.
The way book trade professionals operate the market in the age of digitisation, the way they change it and foster interchange, will depend on how the media continue to develop. The book trade is about much more now than trade in books. The Frankfurt Book Fair takes account of these changes, with numerous activities and professional programmes aimed at supporting the industry.

In the age of digitisation, rights trade is becoming more and more complex. We offer interesting events on the topic of rights and licences, for both beginners and the experts.
The Frankfurt Book Fair is the most important business platform for international trade in rights and licences. Every year, rights professionals from all over the world meet up in the Literary Agents & Scouts Centre (LitAg) in Hall 6.2 to buy and sell promising titles. But rights trade has changed over recent years as digitisation increases across the entire book and media industry. Crossmedia marketing is coming more and more to the fore: a book becomes a film, a computer game, an e-book - it is a matter of increasingly having to represent the digital product rights as well.

The future beckons, as the comics industry reinvents itself
Comics are, by their very nature, crossmedial products. These stories told in pictures combine elements of art, pop and literature to form a new and separate genre. For comics, the jump into other media seems inevitable: comics become films, films become games and the games turn up again as apps. For many years comics have been among the most crossmedial products in the book and media industry.
To lend physical emphasis to the relationship between comics, film and games, and the new digital forms of content use, this year the Comics Centre is in a new location, directly next to the Hot Spot Kids & Comics. The collective events stage serves as a bridge between the tried-and-tested and all things new.
